Murphy Horne Fletcher

Murphy focuses on helping businesses navigate state and federal regulatory issues in the areas of employment and tax. Murphy advises employers on human resources issues; drafts employment policies and agreements; represents businesses before government agencies and in state and federal court; and assists in the preparation and administration of employee benefit programs. In addition to human resources issues, Murphy helps employers navigate state and federal tax issues, including representing businesses before the Internal Revenue Service and the North Carolina Department of Revenue. She also assists employers with developing and maintaining employee benefit plans which are compliant with federal and state law.

CLIENT SUCCESSES

  • Obtained dismissal of seven-count employment-related lawsuit against a local manufacturer;
  • Negotiated and drafted executive employment agreements, including employment agreements related to the sale of a business;
  • Successfully defended employers across various industries related to charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission;
  • Drafted various employee benefit plans, including cafeteria plans and deferred compensation plans involving phantom stock and stock appreciation rights;
  • Achieved dismissal of a multi-claim lawsuit filed by an inmate against a local municipality;
  • Negotiated and obtained significant reductions in penalties assessed against employers by the North Carolina Industrial Commission;
  • Assisted business and individual clients with resolving outstanding income tax, payroll tax, and sales and use tax balances with the Internal Revenue Service and the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
