Kathleen Rodberg specializes in elder law and focuses on a wide array of matters. From traditional estate planning and administration to the unique and challenging issues facing the aging, elderly and those with disabilities, Kathleen will work to support you and your family as you address current concerns and plan for the future. The often complex situations of elderly or disabled clients require detailed planning and a specific knowledge base in the area of elder law. Kathleen regularly helps clients establish and administer guardianship and special needs trusts, develop comprehensive Medicaid and long-term care plans, and prepare traditional estate planning documents. In addition, Kathleen frequently gives presentations on topics like recent developments in elder law, special needs trust taxation, and probate matters.

Kathleen is one of only 22 North Carolina attorneys who are N.C State Bar Board Certified Specialists in Elder Law.

“Board certification is an indication that the lawyer has intentionally focused his or her legal practice to improve the proficiency and quality of the lawyer’s legal services and to stay current in the specialty field. A lawyer who is certified as a specialist by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization has satisfied a number of rigorous standards for certification in the lawyer’s specialty field…A board certified specialist must be recertified by the board every 5 years, at which time the lawyer must satisfy the continuing education, substantial involvement, and peer review standards for continued certification.” (Source)

Additionally, Kathleen is a Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA®) by the National Elder Law Foundation. She is one of only 17 attorneys in North Carolina to receive this distinction.

“The Certified Elder Law Attorney (CELA) certification has frequently been referred to as ‘the gold standard’ for elder law and special needs practitioners. This reflects the hard work and proof required before an attorney can proudly proclaim that he or she holds the valued designation…There are nearly 500 CELAs in the country, so not every community has even one person who has been certified. Your lawyer should be a CELA – it is your surest method of independently confirming the she (or he) is more than just qualified.” (Source)
