Leadership Asheville Flagship Program Information

The primary aim of the Leadership Asheville Program is to strengthen participants’ knowledge of, commitment to, and involvement in collaborative community leadership. The program is designed to develop, connect, and engage citizens from cross-sectors of the community, including business, nonprofit, education, and government.

Participants complete the program with an increased capacity to contribute as effective leader, a strong connection to the network of Leadership Asheville Program graduates and supporters, a greater knowledge of the area in which they live.

Leadership Asheville 37 Class Projects

A significant component of the LA Program is a small team project focusing on service, teamwork, and collaboration.  These projects provide participants the opportunity to make a difference in the community. They also serve as a training ground for solving complex issues by providing opportunities for experimentation and practice, as well as exposure to different perspectives from team members. Themes and topics vary from year to year, with project partnerships solicited from an array of community organizations.

Below are the eight community organizations LA 37 partnered with over the 10 month program. Click here for the details of what they did with each organization.

Leadership Asheville 37 Class Days

LA 37 kicks off the year with orientation in September 2018 followed by a two-night retreat later that month. History Day, Equity and Inclusion Day and Government Day will be the themes of the class in October, November, and December. In January, the class will focus on Education, followed by Economic development Day in February. The class will meet twice in March to learn about Health and Human Services and then spend a day discussing the Media and the lenses through which we begin to understand community issues. Infrastructure and Environment Day will be held in April and we will complete the year with an end of year retreat, followed by graduation in May 2019. By the end of the year, the class will have met and heard from over 100 local leaders on these topics and had the chance to ask them questions about their areas of expertise.
