Six Attorneys Named to Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite

McGuire, Wood & Bissette, P.A. is pleased to announce that attorneys Susan S. Barbour, Annika M. Brock, Mary E. Euler, Harris Livingstain, Sabrina P. Rockoff and Douglas J. Tate have been named to the 2015 Business North Carolina magazine’s Legal Elite list of the top lawyers in North Carolina. The Legal Elite recognizes the top lawyers in the state in specific business- related practice areas as voted by their peers, and only about 3% of the state’s attorneys are awarded the distinction.

Susan Strayhorn Barbour focuses on real estate law and advises clients in the purchase and sale of industrial and commercial sites, as well as residential and commercial developments, including single and multi-tenant commercial centers and residential properties. Susan chairs the firm’s Real Property and Development team. A North Carolina native, Susan received her Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has maintained a practice devoted exclusively to real estate matters in Western North Carolina since relocating to Asheville in the fall of 1984.

Annika M. Brock advises clients on commercial and residential real estate contracts, leases, loans, title issues, closings and complex transactions. A North Carolina native, Annika has been practicing law since 2000. Since relocating to Asheville in 2007, she has maintained a practice devoted exclusively to real estate matters in Western North Carolina.

Mary E. Euler uses her tested skills to help families, businesses and individuals solve disputes over wills, trusts, powers of attorney and other fiduciary and estate matters. She possesses extensive jury trial experience. Mary received her Juris Doctor degree from Washington and Lee University in 1994. She serves on the Litigation Section Council and Estate Planning and Fiduciary Law Section’s Fiduciary Litigation Committee for the NC Bar Association.

Harris Livingstain tackles issues relating to estate planning, as well as trust and probate administration. His practice ranges from the very simple to very complex multi-generational estate planning that focuses on estate and income tax reduction techniques and asset protection. Harris also represents owners of closely-held or family businesses and assists them in the succession of those businesses to succeeding generations. He also provides general income tax planning to individuals and entities, and represents taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Revenue regarding audit and collection matters.

Sabrina Presnell Rockoff, a native of Western North Carolina, focuses her practice on advising employers on human relations issues, developing human resources practices and policies, defending employment discrimination lawsuits, and representing employers in union matters. Sabrina has been practicing law since receiving her Juris Doctor degree from UNC School of Law in 2002.

Douglas J. Tate assists businesses collect rent, mortgage payments and money owed on aging account receivables. He also protects creditor’s rights in bankruptcy court. Doug is a frequent speaker on debt collection and landlord-tenant law, a form of debt collection. Additionally, Doug practices in the field of Animal Law, a niche practice area in which he combines his knowledge and experience in animal-related matters with his personal interest in animal compassion.
